Every elite team needs someone who can turn a plan into action.
For Orlando Prime, that person is Damon Cruz.
Damon serves as Frank Travers’s second-in-command, but his role goes far beyond sitting in meetings or helping run the unit. He is Orlando Prime’s tactical lead, the one trusted to step into dangerous situations when a case moves from strategy to execution.
Before joining Orlando Prime, Damon served as a Navy SEAL. That background shaped the way he approaches a mission: disciplined, focused, and always aware of the stakes. He understands pressure. He understands risk. And he understands that hesitation can cost lives.
That experience is part of why Frank recruited him.
When the governor tasked Frank with building Orlando Prime, he needed more than a team of talented people. He needed someone he could trust completely. Someone steady under fire. Someone with field instincts and the judgment to know when to act.
Damon became that person.
In the field, he is often paired with Claire Santos, another founding member of Orlando Prime. Their skill sets complement each other well: Damon brings tactical experience, while Claire brings intelligence training, observation, and the ability to read people and situations quickly. Together, they give Orlando Prime a strong operational edge.
But Damon is not simply a soldier following orders.
Like many characters in the KC & Orlando Prime world, he carries pieces of his past with him. Readers who pay close attention may begin to notice hints that there is more beneath the surface, including family tensions that have not yet been fully explored.
That’s one of the things I enjoy about writing this team.
Each member has a job to do, but each also has a history. Damon may be calm, capable, and mission-focused, but that doesn’t mean he is untouched by loss, regret, or unresolved questions.
As the series continues, readers will see more of Damon’s role within Orlando Prime and more of the relationships that shape the team.
Because in a unit built for high-stakes cases, trust isn’t optional.
It’s survival.
