The road to the cabin was the same as it always was. Loose gravel, half a mile of pines, then the turn that opened onto the bluff overlooking Blackwater River.
Nothing in that moment looks like the beginning of a case. That is what gives it weight. Readers know the quiet will not last, even though Frank and Linda do not.
