Black Gold Secret begins on the Gulf Coast after a hurricane exposes Blackwater Rig Three.
The offshore platform has been tied to tragedy for twenty-five years. Luke Mercer lost his father there, and the official version of the disaster has had decades to settle into accepted history.
Then reporter Gemma Klein receives an anonymous package, and Luke recovers evidence from the damaged rig.
Their investigation has a clear question to answer: Was Blackwater really an accident?
Luke understands salvage work, offshore danger, and what the rig cost his family. Gemma understands sources, public records, and the difference between a compelling theory and a story she can prove. They need both kinds of knowledge before either of them can reach the truth.
The Blackwater case reaches a real conclusion in this novella. Readers will not have to wait until Book 3 to learn whether Luke and Gemma’s immediate investigation matters.
One Trail That Keeps Moving
Solving one case does not mean every question disappears.
The evidence found in Black Gold Secret points beyond the Gulf. Different records lead toward different countries. Different parts of the conspiracy require different skills. That is where Luke’s brothers enter the larger story.
Each book changes location and lead pair, but the Mercer family has one reason to keep following the trail: their father’s name was buried with the truth about Blackwater.
The Treasure Is Proof
The Mercer Files is action-adventure, but the treasure is never a chest of gold.
It may be a ledger, a missing claim paper, an archived record, a witness statement, or a physical object someone failed to destroy. The danger comes from what that proof can establish and who will be exposed if it survives.
That lets the series have storm-dark water, hazardous recoveries, hidden locations, and international pursuit while keeping the investigation underneath the action.
The characters aren’t chasing riches. They’re trying to make the truth impossible to bury again.
