If this Labor Day gives you a little reading time, I’m turning the spotlight back to Lily. Last week, we visited the beginning of the Mirror Estate series in Buried Secrets. Living Secrets takes us further into that world, with someone whose ordinary life is about to become very complicated.
The news she wanted comes with questions
Lily has grown up believing her parents are dead. Discovering they are alive should give her time to ask questions and begin to understand the family she never knew.
Instead, she is drawn into a dangerous mission while she is still trying to make sense of that revelation. An FBI agent and a young tycoon become unlikely allies. The threat extends far beyond her family, but the personal questions do not disappear just because the situation is urgent.
Would you feel ready?
I like the tension that comes from a character who has good reason to feel unprepared. Readers can see the danger ahead and understand why she hesitates. Taking the next step costs her something.
In Living Secrets, questions of trust and faith sit alongside the race to prevent an attack. Lily must decide whom to believe when even the story of her own childhood has changed. That makes the suspense personal, however large the threat becomes.
