By the time I finished writing Shadowed Secret, Book 6 of the Mirror Estate thriller series, something had changed for me creatively.
Originally, my plan was to keep the series open-ended for years, similar to long-running thriller and mystery series I love, such as the Gabriel Allon novels, the Bosch books, and many others where readers can continue following familiar characters through new investigations and evolving dangers.
But while writing Shadowed Secret, I realized the larger Ghost arc was beginning to reveal its shape.
For the first time, I could truly see the ending.
Ironically, this shift partly began with what was originally intended to be a Christmas novella released in December 2024. That story unexpectedly expanded the emotional and narrative possibilities of the Mirror Estate world. The characters deepened. The relationships became more layered. And the long-running mysteries surrounding the Ghost began pulling everything toward a larger conclusion.
That realization changed the direction of the series.
Instead of stretching the Ghost storyline indefinitely, I decided the emotional impact would be stronger if the major arc actually moved toward a defined ending while still leaving room for future stories and connected worlds.
Shadowed Secret became the bridge between the earlier mysteries and the larger endgame now unfolding.
This book leans heavily into psychological suspense, crime thriller tension, hidden agendas, and emotional fallout. Secrets are no longer safely buried. Characters begin discovering how deeply they have been manipulated. And the danger surrounding Mirror Estate becomes more personal than ever before.
At the same time, I still approached the novel the way I visualize all my stories: almost like a cinematic television drama. I see scenes unfolding in my mind while writing. Conversations. Atmosphere. Lighting. Emotional reactions. Escalating tension.
I hope readers experience that same immersive feeling.
Now the story continues with Stolen Secrets, releasing June 2 alongside the companion novella Shadow Extraction, featuring Olivia.
And this truly is the beginning of the end for the Ghost arc.
