When I wrote Buried Secrets, I had no idea how far Dylan Roche’s journey would take him.
At the beginning of the series, Dylan wasn’t a hero. He wasn’t wealthy, powerful, or connected. He was simply a young man trying to understand the mysteries surrounding his family’s past.
Raised with more questions than answers, Dylan believed much of his mother’s family history had been lost forever. What began as a search for answers soon became a journey that uncovered hidden relatives, long-buried secrets, international conspiracies, and a legacy far larger than he ever imagined.
Along the way, readers met Lily.
When Lily first appeared in Living Secrets, she was carrying mysteries of her own. Raised in Hong Kong by her uncle, she believed her parents were dead. Like Dylan, she spent much of her life trying to understand where she belonged and who she could trust.
As the series unfolded, readers discovered that Lily’s story was far more complicated than anyone realized. Her father had once been a senator. Her mother was involved in intelligence work. The truths hidden in her past would eventually connect to larger events affecting nearly everyone around her.
One reason I’ve enjoyed writing Dylan and Lily is that their stories mirror many of the themes that run throughout the entire Mirror Estate series:
- Family
- Identity
- Faith
- Forgiveness
- The search for truth
Both characters have faced betrayal, danger, and heartbreaking discoveries. Yet through it all, they continue moving forward.
Seven books later, Dylan’s journey is still unfolding. Every answer seems to reveal another mystery, and every discovery opens a new door into the past.
What began as a search for family history has grown into something much larger—one that continues to affect everyone connected to Mirror Estate.
It’s been an incredible journey so far, and Dylan’s story isn’t finished yet.
