KC & Tanner
Detective Kylie (KC) Cassidy & FBI SSA Nathan Tanner

Some relationships begin with a chance meeting.

Others begin in the middle of an investigation.

Kylie “KC” Cassidy and Nathan Tanner first crossed paths during the events of Hidden Secrets. At the time, neither realized how important that meeting would become.

Months later, their paths crossed again during Christmas Murders.

This time, things were different.

A connection formed between them that neither expected, despite the fact that they lived in very different worlds.

KC is a detective. Her job is straightforward, at least on paper. Follow the evidence. Find the truth. Protect the victims. Bring criminals to justice.

Nathan Tanner’s world is far more complicated.

A former Atlanta police officer, Tanner now serves as Supervisory Special Agent and team leader of a covert federal task force. The investigations he oversees often involve national security concerns, intelligence operations, and threats that never make the evening news.

Because of the nature of his work, there are things he simply can’t discuss.

Not with the public.

Not with colleagues.

And sometimes not even with KC.

That reality creates challenges neither of them anticipated.

Yet somehow, they make it work.

One of the things I enjoy most about writing KC and Tanner is that their relationship isn’t built on working side by side every day. Instead, they’re often pursuing the same goal from different directions. Their cases occasionally overlap, but each has responsibilities the other can’t fully share.

Sometimes those separate paths collide in dramatic ways.

In Fatal Invitation, when KC’s investigation turned deadly and she found herself in danger, Tanner didn’t hesitate. Alongside Rick Spaulding, he joined the race to find her before it was too late.

Moments like that reveal the foundation of their relationship.

Trust.

Respect.

Commitment.

Not because their lives are easy, but because both understand the sacrifices that come with serving others.

As KC’s story continues in the KC & Orlando Prime series, readers will see more of that balance between personal relationships and professional responsibilities.

Because sometimes the strongest partnerships are built by people who refuse to let different worlds pull them apart.
