If you’ve been reading my books for a while, you probably know two things about me.
First, I love a good mystery.
Second, I watch far too many crime shows.
Most of my books reflect those interests. Whether it’s the Mirror Estate series, KC & Orlando Prime, or Zoe Hunter, the stories usually revolve around investigations, conspiracies, crimes, and the people determined to uncover the truth.
So why write something different?
The answer is simple. Sometimes a story wants to move faster.
Action-adventure stories thrive on momentum. The heroes aren’t sitting behind desks analyzing evidence. They’re chasing clues, exploring dangerous locations, uncovering hidden secrets, and trying to stay one step ahead of the people pursuing them.
As I began thinking about The Mercer Files, I realized that a novella format was a perfect fit for the type of stories I wanted to tell. Instead of a full-length thriller, these adventures could move quickly from one discovery to the next, delivering a fast-paced reading experience without sacrificing suspense.
Long-time readers also know how much I enjoy television. One show I particularly enjoyed was Blood & Treasure. Although the series was eventually canceled, I loved its blend of adventure, treasure hunting, mystery, and globe-trotting action.
Mix that with some classic Indiana Jones-style excitement, and the idea for The Mercer Files began to take shape.
The result is a new series that still contains many of the elements I love writing: mysteries, hidden secrets, dangerous adversaries, and high stakes. But this time, the focus is on adventure first.
The free prequel, The Last Shift, is already available for readers who would like an early glimpse into this world. And I’m currently working on Black Gold Secret, the first novella in the series, with a planned release later this summer.
I hope you’ll enjoy this new adventure as much as I’ve enjoyed creating it.
