If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably know I love crime shows. Police procedurals. Investigations. Conspiracies. The race against time. The moment when all the seemingly unrelated clues suddenly come together.
I also read plenty of crime thrillers.
One thing I’ve noticed over the years, though, is that many modern thrillers rely heavily on profanity or graphic content. Network television tends to be a little more restrained, but many streaming shows seem to assume that constant swearing is simply how everyone talks.
That’s never really been my style.
I kept thinking there had to be other readers like me: people who enjoy the suspense, the danger, the twists, and the adrenaline rush without feeling like every conversation needs to be peppered with profanity.
So when I started writing my own novels, I made a conscious decision.
I wanted stories that were fast-paced, cinematic, and unpredictable. Stories with high stakes, dangerous villains, and characters facing impossible choices. Stories that would keep readers turning pages late into the night, not because of shock value, but because they simply had to know what happened next.
That doesn’t mean my books are “safe” in the sense that nothing bad happens. Quite the opposite. My characters face kidnappings, conspiracies, murders, corruption, betrayals, and impossible moral dilemmas. The danger is real, and sometimes the cost is high.
But I don’t believe profanity is necessary to make those moments feel authentic.
Some people assume that means I only write for Christian readers. While faith naturally finds its way into many of my stories because it’s part of who I am, my goal has never been to preach. My first priority is always telling a compelling story.
If you’ve read my books, you’ve probably noticed they’re written with a cinematic feel. I want readers to experience the same excitement they get from a great crime drama except on the page. The investigations, the teamwork, the surprises, the emotional stakes… all without feeling the need to include language or content that many readers would rather avoid.
My heroes often have a strong moral compass, though they’re certainly not perfect. Other characters live in the gray areas where difficult choices blur the line between right and wrong. Those tensions create some of the most interesting conflicts because real life isn’t always black and white.
At the end of the day, I simply want to write the kinds of thrillers I enjoy reading myself—stories that are exciting, intelligent, and full of heart.
